Sake in the Fushimi District

The other day I visited the Fushimi sake brewery district, which is in the south part of Kyoto. Since Fushimi is famous for delicious sake, I went to a sake tasting place which has a nice retro atmosphere. They serve several different types of sake tasting sets at a reasonable price.

Sake is a fermented alcoholic drink made from rice and water. To make good sake, quality rice and good water are essential. How much water do you think is in sake? Sake is 80 percent water. So, where there is good water, there is good sake.

Sake breweries in the Fushimi district use fresh water that comes down from the mountains because it contains the right amount of minerals to make delicious sake.

This area has a long history of sake brewing. In fact, the oldest brewery in the Fushimi district today started making sake about 400 years ago.

People used to carry sake by boat on the canal from Fushimi to Osaka, which is southwest of Kyoto. Now sightseers can enjoy riding a boat for about an hour to feel the atmosphere of the sake district.

The sake tasting place I visited sells 80 to 100 different sakes that are produced in Fushimi. Sake has different flavors like dry, smooth, and rich, so you can try a set that has the flavor you like and find the best sake for you here!!
